Happy Monday Friends! Today I am sharing about my experience at Texas Tulips in Pilot Point, Texas. I had been wanting to go to Texas Tulips for a couple of years now, and was finally able to make the drive out there yesterday. I kind of had a good idea of what to expect, but for some that may not I wanted to give a full honest review on whether or not I think the trip is worth it!
So the question lingers – is Texas Tulips worth the drive and/or money? In my personal opinion, the answer is YES, Texas Tulips is definitely something you should do if you’re interested!
You can find all of the following information on the Texas Tulips website but here’s a mini breakdown for you + my personal opinion:
SEASON/WEATHER DEPENDENT
The tulip field is only open during the spring season when they are blooming. So for example, this year Texas Tulips opened February 28th, and they expect to be open through the end of March. So first things first, I would be sure to check to see if they are open and what the weather will be like before heading out there.
One more thing to mention is that you shouldn’t expect for the WHOLE field to be blooming at once, some will be in full bloom, while others may be starting to or finishing up. Regardless though, there will be plenty worthy of pictures.
COST/FEES/PARKING
Parking is free, but there is a $5 admission fee per person, and in addition if you plan to pick tulips, they are $2.50 a stem. Baskets are provided, and then they wrap your tulips for you before you leave.
CROWDS
Texas Tulips is very popular. While the weekends may be the easiest time to go, I recommend going on a week day if you can. I have heard that going on the weekends are extremely busy. And I can tell you that we arrived on a Tuesday about an hour after they opened and there were already some folks there. It wasn’t crazy busy – we were still able to get some good pictures without too many people, but it did get busier throughout the time we were there (you’ll be able to see the crowd get a little bigger throughout the background of some of my pictures).
One thing I would personally recommend doing is calling ahead and just asking their slowest times, as that is something I didn’t do. There may be a time during a weekday that is slower that I don’t know about.
With that said, this is my personal overall opinion of the Texas Tulips Experience:
If you love flowers, then I highly recommend going. It truly is a beautiful place to visit and definitely a fun thing for friends, couples, and families to do together and take pictures at!
I did read some people saying they were concerned about their tulips dying before they arrived home, but ours ended up being fine. Before they wrap up the tulips, they put a gel on the bottom of the stems to help ensure they stay alive.
I live about 3.5 hours away from Texas Tulips and while they definitely got limp on the car ride, I was able to revive them by rinsing off the gel, trimming the stems and putting them in fresh water. I woke up the next morning to them being full of life again! While $2.50 a stem can add up, I think it’s overall such a cute and fun experience.
